Thoughts on our Current Situation
Written by Brother Phil on March 23, 2020
It is a strange and exciting time to be alive. I continually hear about how much stress and worry folks are dealing with and it concerns me but I can’t fully understand it. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I grew up without much or because I have seen God do amazing things in my life.
I would like to look at some scripture today that has been a blessing to me the past week.
Psalm 91: 1,2 “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
I am privileged to live in The United States of America. I am glad for our inalienable rights that our forefathers learned from the scripture and penned into our founding documents. I can tell you that my trust and refuge is not in The USA.
My physical location, though secure, offers little comfort in the hardest of times. I love my family dearly and thank God for them, but my security is not in my wife and children.
Psalm 91:3-6 “Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.”
I really don’t know how dangerous this CoronaVirus really is but one thing is for sure, God has allowed it to come and He will gain glory from it. After reading the above verses we can take peace in knowing that God, through out time, has always protected His people (The Israelite and us who are grafted into the family).
1. Producing the plague, or other malignant, contagious disease; noxious to health and life; as a pestilent air or climate.
2. Mischievous; noxious to morals or society; destructive; in a general sense; as pestilent books.
3. Troublesome; mischievous; making disturbance; corrupt; as a pestilent fellow.Noah Webster 1828 Dictionary
I believe the noisome pestilence we deal with today is much more than a virus. We have seen the media spin out of control with wild stories to scare people around the world of a plague but the real plague today is the destructive attacks against Morality.
Three thousand babies are murdered every day in the US.
Forty million Americans visit pornographic sites on a daily basis. That’s about 10% of our population.
55.3 % of Americans drink alcohol at least once a month.
Divorce rates are ever rising along with domestic abuse from Husbands and Wives.
As Saved Folks, we often say, “Well, that’s the world.” The reality of the situation is we are here to reach a lost and dying world.
Mark 16:15 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Maybe, just maybe, God is trying to get the attention of His people. We practice “social distancing” without needing to be told. If they don’t look like us, smell like us, talk like us, we stay far away.
I know that not all are this way but more often than not I see this trend in a lot of God’s people. I will leave you with the rest of Psalm 91…. thank God for His promises:
Psalm 91:8-16 “Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.“
We need to trust God more then ever. This is an amazing opportunity to be a witness and a blessing to others. I want my kids to look back on this time as a challenge that we overcame. That we took the promises of God and made a difference.
